The Walk Bike Columbia Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan, adopted in 2015, is the result of a comprehensive public planning effort. The Plan contains an extensive analysis of existing conditions at the time of planning, and examines priorities for programs, policies, and a long-term buildout of pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, as well as a bike share feasibility study. It is the intent of Columbia Compass: Envision 2036 that Walk Bike Columbia be carried forward in its entirety as a longer-term plan, and as such, it has been incorporated as Appendix M.

Complete StreetsKnown as “complete streets,” corridors that adequately provide for all roadway users, including pedestrians, transit riders, bicyclists, and motorists allow for daily, individual transportation choices, rather than relying on a one size fits all approach to mobility.
Planning for multi-modal streets presents a tremendous opportunity for the City of Columbia. By developing a connected network of complete streets Columbia will foster economic development, reduce vehicular emissions, improve public health and quality of life, connect residents to jobs, retail, and recreation opportunities, and support “aging in place” as a viable opportunity for all residents. The City's pedestrian, bicycle, and complete streets design guidelines, adapted from the design guidelines of Walk Bike Columbia, can be found in Part 9 of the Engineering Regulations.
